Why is Space Exploration today similiar to exploration during 1500's-1800's?!?

Space exploration is an exporation of new and unchartered territory. The astronauts are enjoying an experience similar to that of explorers from the past. These explorers were exploring America and various other countries. While these territories were not on another planet, they were on unchartered land. The explorers probably felt the same joy, excitement, and fears that the astronauts feel today. It's exciting to do something new but there is also fear of the unknown.
