What's the difference between McCain's experience and John Kerry's experience?

Has anyone else noticed that Democrats supported Kerry in the 2004 election because "he had real war experiances, he was the one in the trench getting shot at, his low miletary level qualifies him to be president." In the '08 election democrats critisize McCain's miletary experiance because "he's just a common soldier, not a big-shot leader. that doesn't qualify him to be president." Hypocritical? Yeah, I think so. I'm looking foreward to the answers on this one.
