How to get rid of chest congestion?

yesterday, I had a fever of 103.5 and a sore throat. today, my fever went down just below 98.5 but now I have a congested chest and a cough. the funny thing is I read another Yahoo! Answers question that was exactly like this except for one thing... He coughed up a lot of green phlegm and I am just coughing up white stuff... first, whats my sickness? second, how can I fix it while im at my house? i.e. not going to the doctor
